Dynamo Cloud Compute

Dynamo Cloud Compute brings the power of Dynamo's visual programming runtime to the cloud. Instead of running your graphs on your local machine, the compute service executes them in a secure cloud environment and returns the results.

What is Dynamo?

Dynamo is a visual programming language and authoring environment that lets you create programs by connecting nodes together in a graph. The Dynamo runtime executes these graphs, allowing you to automate complex tasks, generate geometry, and integrate with other software.

How the Compute Service Works

When you use Dynamo through a cloud-based client (such as the Dynamo Player in Forma), your .dyn graph files are sent to the compute service for execution. The service:

  1. Receives your graph and any input parameters

  2. Executes your graph in an isolated cloud environment

  3. Returns the results back to the client application

This cloud-based approach means you can run Dynamo graphs without installing Dynamo locally, and you can leverage cloud computing power for complex operations.

Why Use the Dynamo Cloud Compute?

Dynamo Cloud Compute enables scenarios where you want to:

Run Graphs Without Desktop Installation: Execute Dynamo graphs directly from web applications without requiring users to install Dynamo Desktop on their machines.

Collaborate and Share: Share graphs with team members who can run them through web interfaces like Forma, making it easier to distribute automated workflows across your organization.

Leverage Cloud Computing: Take advantage of cloud infrastructure for computationally intensive operations that might take longer on local machines.

Standardize Execution Environment: Ensure consistent behavior across different users and machines by running graphs in a controlled cloud environment.

Connect to Forma: Interact with the Forma API using Dynamo. see this blog post for more details.

Key Characteristics

Cloud Execution: Your graphs run in the cloud, not on your local machine. This means:

  • No need to install Dynamo Desktop to run graphs

  • Access to cloud computing resources

  • Consistent execution environment across different users

Security: The service executes each user's graphs in isolated environments to ensure data security and privacy. Your graphs and data are kept separate from other users.

Asynchronous Processing: Graph execution happens asynchronously - clients submit a job and can check its status until it completes. This allows for long-running computations without blocking your workflow.

Current Availability

Dynamo Cloud Compute is currently available through:

  • Dynamo Player in Forma Open Beta: Upload, share, and execute Dynamo graphs directly in Autodesk Forma's web interface
